Happy Saturday all. It finally stopped raining here in the Catskills this morning, but last night was a real doozy. We lost power for most of the night, a neighbor’s barn caved in and massive maples fell down in the road (Thankfully Nick Aster and The Messy Palette threw on some work gloves and grabbed a saw and dragged them into a ditch. It was strangely impressive.

We also gathered dozens of tea lights leftover from a wedding Spruceton Inn and made the house look like a medieval castle.

Speaking of the wonderful Steven Weinberg my dear friend has a new book called WHAT IS COLOR in 10 days. It’s ostensibly for kids, but I have found myself reading it cover to cover several times now.

Perfect for curious and creative minds who love paintbrushes as much as microscopes, this clever and eye-catching full-color nonfiction book dives deep into the strange, wacky, silly, and occasionally perilous history behind the colors that paint our everyday lives.

I am going to have Steven on the pod this week and I am giving away a copy of this gorgeous book to a paid subscriber. Just comment, WHAT THE EFF IS COLOR down below.

Now onto this gonzo bananas story I wrote a magazine in the UK to promote The Sicilian Inheritance. Across the pond they love to publish short fiction to get people excited for a book. Not an excerpt of the book, but rather some other kind of short story that might be tangentially related. I am not a short story writer so this assignment was fun, but also daunting. AND it had to be super short which was harder than writing long for me.

This little story about people finding their roots in Sicily is totally absurd but I thought you might like it. I also have a special treat for paid subscribers coming up…..the first chapter of THE SICILIAN INHERITANCE sequel, THE PALERMO CONNECTION.

But first this weird story.
