That apricot facial scrub with pieces of actual walnut shells in it. Now we just have microplastics :-( And counting actual money instead of tap to pay with your phone— different in every country!
Did you put in any references to magazine stands? I miss those!
And my favorite 90s memory was sharing the same facts as everyone else. We got our news at the same times from TV or papers. And the music was awesome, too. I loved buying CDs and learning the lyrics from reading the liner!
That Gap grass perfume scent. Bush. GooGoo Dolls. Recording Dawson's Creek on videotape and hoping a game playing before it didn't run over so I missed the episode. Making mix tapes from the radio. TCBY. Boy Bands. Hootie and the Blowfish. Umbro shorts you had to fold over multiple times because they only made boys sizes.
I graduated from high school in 1990 and college in 1994, so the ’90s were everything. Gathering everyone on my dorm floor to go in on 3 orders of breadsticks so Papa John’s would deliver … going to the mall to shop at The Gap and Limited … racing back to my dorm between classes to watch All My Children with my friends… hanging out in the downstairs lounge to watch MTV while doing laundry …
Just started a 1990's based Rom Com book yesterday: Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. You might enjoy. I went to Europe for the first time in '97 to Frankfurt book fair - just me and my Rick Steves guide and it all worked out without gadgets. Certain thing would have been easier perhaps, but a lot would have been lost in the isolation, wonder, simplicity. And early 90's I had big hair like Elaine on Seinfeld... and scrunchies!!!
I just wanted to comment that Boswell Books is an absolute delight! I’m a cookbook author who lives in Milwaukee and I’m sad that I won’t be in town for your event. Daniel who owns Boswell is just a gem. I hope you have a fantastic time and if you have time to grab brunch, Uncle Wolfie’s is a must. Right by the bookstore, Canela Café is nice too.
I was in HS in the 90s…I loved being able to go places and it was hard to get a hold of me. I’d leave at night with friends with no real agenda and no phones (I had a cell phone but it lived in my car - didn’t carry it with me until after I graduated from college). We’d jump the fences to get into neighborhood pools after hours and swim in the summers. Drive around with no destination. Nothing too crazy but definitely no social media or documentation of any kind.

Oh yay! Thank you!
I had a class during Dawson's Creek, so my friend recorded it for me and I watched it at school the next day in the media room.

The 90,s were a bit rough for me. Lots of highs and lows. We had our second child, my mom passed away (cancer, she was only 53!).
I remember listening to lots of music, dancing in the kitchen, and fun times with friends too.
And, SO much time on the phone coordinating get together, vacation plans, reservations, etc.

TV you had to make a plan to watch while it was on or just be content with the friend recap!
Your comment made me think too of United Colors of Benetton
I almost put that one on the list!
I raced back to my dorm in the middle 90s to watch Days of Our Lives!

Travel with the guide book and eyes wide open! And having to talk to strangers to get local intel!

I graduated from college in the 90's and I think what I miss most about the 90's was the freedom and the unfettered joy of learning new things.
Can't wait to see you and Grace next week!
Slip dresses and doc Martens!!

I truly feel like the 90s was one of the best timelines. Just enough technology to make life a little smoother without taking over.
