I’ve been editing and researching for my next book, The Parisian Heist, a feminist art heist. It will be a gem once I am finally finished. In my reading I came across a quote that I love. It’s often attributed to the writer Colette with very little evidence to back that up but I love it any way.

“You will do foolish things, but do them with enthusiasm.”

I mean. I want to chant this every morning when I wake up as I am about to embark on this crazy Everyone is Lying to You launch.

These words might be my next tattoo.

Releasing a book into the world feels a little foolish right now. Everything is INSANE. And yet I will do it with so much fucking enthusiasm.

I’m handing over this deeply personal, wildly subjective thing I made, the thing I poured my heart and brain into, to complete strangers and asking them to judge it. Publicly. On the internet. Possibly in one-star Amazon reviews.

That is gonna hurt. But then some of you will read it and love it, and that joy is going to be awesome. So yeah, it’s probably foolish to be an author. But I do it with enthusiasm.

This book tour is going to be the most gonzo bananas enthusiastic one yet.

At many stops, we’re having tradwife, prairie core, ranch capitalism costume contests. The prizes are legitimately good. I just had t-shirts and tank tops made that I cannot wait to show you. I’ll reveal them next week.

There will be cocktails. There will be snacks. There will be space to share your sourdough, pie, and bread recipes with other unhinged women who show up in corsets and vintage aprons. This is more than a book tour. This is community and joy.

The news is bleak. The world feels like it’s on fire. Breaking through the news cycle is impossible. And some days, I think, why even try. Why add to the noise.

But here’s the thing. Joy is resistance right now. It’s a radical act.

Come to the tour. Bring your friends. Bring your pie. Bring your rage.

Let’s do something foolish with all the enthusiasm.
