Me not doing Dry January at a club in Atlantic City fifteen years ago.

I love a good check-in. I’m a little past the halfway mark of Dry January so I figured I would jot down how it’s been so far. If you want to hear why I started it you read read about it or listen to:)

Ok so first I should probably explain how often I was drinking before. If I’m in a social situation I’m usually having drinks. That’s the best way to describe it. And not just one. So over the holidays we were constantly socializing which means there were a lot of cocktail and wine and beers (and it sucks that I prefer heavy IPAs). That means we were having drinks just about every day or every other day during the holidays. In normal times it’s a once or twice a week thing usually. But I digress. I thought it might be useful to some people to hear that. Also, as I mentioned my hangovers were monsters. My anxiety and pounding heart in the morning and most of the next day were intense. I also got the headaches and the nausea and all the things times eleven since I’m 43.

So now onto two weeks later. This is the totally honest part about where I’m at. The quickie list.

  1. I’ve gotten better sleep

  2. I lost a little weight

  3. I’m less anxious

  4. I don’t miss hangovers

  5. I’m pretty OK with socializing without the booze but I haven’t REALLY tested it.

  6. Since I don’t have hangovers I’m definitely more present and patient with the kids.

  7. My poop is more regular…no more hungover tummy troubles.

But let’s get into the nitty gritty.
