A family affair at the Festa Italiana in Milwaukee.
I have found my weakness, the one thing I am absolutely fucking terrible at.
The one thing I now know that I am the worst at is eating large cannoli very, very fast. At that, I am a failure. But hey….we can’t be good at everything.
Why did I even try to eat many cannoli very fast? Well, this weekend I found myself entered in a cannoli eating contest at the Festa Italiana in Milwaukee.
When someone invites you to be in a culturally relevant eating competition it’s only polite to say yes, especially after they have been promoting your book all day.
See I had the pleasure of speaking on the big stage at Festa Italiana all about Sicilian Inheritance . My conversation partner was the Milwaukee Italian Community Center president Sandy Winard who is the perfect host and interviewer. She offered me not one but two cans of Peroni when I got onstage for our talk. That’s when I knew that we would probably be friends for life.
