Today’s public service announcement. The e book version of the Hot Sicilian is $5.99 until Sunday only. And this is the best price it will ever be….maybe ever. So if you have friends who are on the fence or you want to SCREAM about it on the socials I would love it.
We are currently number one on the Kindle lists in three categories and I want to break the top 100 (which is truly filled with Viking smut, abusive relationship porn that is masked as “romance”, and dragons….no shade but it is).
You all know I love this book so much and this price is actually gonzo stupid low for a book, but I also want as many people as possible to have access to this story that I love so let’s spread the word.
Now onto our regular scheduled programming.
I’m not actually joking about this flying thing. Tomorrow I am taking my first flight lesson and I am excited, terrified, exhilarated, freaking out.
Nick Aster is doing it with me. Apparently couples who learn new things together and have new experiences are happier and more satisfied. I actually learned that a long time ago when I was reporting How to Be Married but that’s not why we are learning to fly. I’m fairly satisfied and I still like Nick Aster.
I wanted to take flight lessons for a lot of reasons but number one is that I want to do something, have a hobby, that has nothing to do with my career or my health.
I read a ton and I listen to podcasts to relax. But these are also things I do for work so while they’re relaxing, the work part of my brain is never totally turned off.
I also do yoga and I hike and bike and run. But those are workout hobbies that I do to stay healthy. I wanted to try something new and tickle my brain. I want to do something just for sheer pleasure.
So….I’m gonna fly.
I was talking to Lyn Slater, the Accidental Icon awhile back and she said this to me:
“My advice to people who want to reinvent is just put yourself in a space of interest to you. Don't have outcomes or goals. Just hang out in the space and because you don't have the blinders that goals can give you, you start seeing opportunities you never would have thought of.”
“There is joy, happiness and pleasure when you have lost yourself in something and then you kind of regain yourself when you are living in a way that's true to you. I started Accidental Icon as a pleasure project. And I don't think that women are told enough that we should give ourselves a pleasure project.”
You can listen to Lyn’s whole UTI episode here. She is a goddamn gem.
Lyn’s advice really resonated. So often I will start a new project and claim I am doing it just for the joy of it, but then it turns into a side hustle or another job or a book or a podcast.
