My Viral Instagram Post
I'll be deleting it after I write this......
First of all, Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate. I hope you are doing exactly what you want to be doing right now. What I wanted to be doing was drinking coffee and writing a newsletter and then organizing my to do list for the week. Maybe that sounds sad and boring, but these are the things that brought me pleasure this morning and I am happy doing what I am doing right now.
Speaking of pleasure, my wonderful and magical friend and constant companion Glynnis MacNicol is well into her marketing monster era for her wonderful new book I’m Mostly Here to Enjoy Myself and she is doing a series of short podcasts and essays on what pleasure actually means and how men have mostly written the cultural narratives we have around women’s pleasure. I got to have the first talk with her!
Ok so now onto the viral post on my Instagram that now had more than 138k views because it is:
About #tradwives
Sowing discontent and conflict
Social media loves conflict. It thrives on hate and discontent. It also loves promoting content on #tradwives right now. 138k views is insanity for something I literally thought for three minutes about. I would love it if 138k people decide to buy The Sicilian Inheritance right now. In fact go grab your copy! Or if you already bought one (and about 30k of you have) encourage one new person to get one for a #buddyread today.
If you get one for a friend I will add them to this newsletter for life. Just DM me the receipt or email me jo.piazza@gmail.com.
So I posted this thing on the Instagram. It was a video where I talked in front of a still image on another account that I believe promotes a toxic message in order to sell you things.
The account posted this:
POV: You married a masculine provider man so your biggest worry is what you are making for dinner.
Why do I think this is toxic and what have been the absolutely gonzo, bananas and sadly grammatically incorrect responses to this?
