A few weeks ago I wrote this newsletter about Swedish Death Cleaning, a practice I continue to swear by.
The next day I got a pitch in my inbox from someone representing Tyler Moore, better known on social media as Tidy Dad. My interest was piqued. Dad influencers are a rare breed, and dad influencers that clean toilets and curate capsule wardrobes, well they’re unicorns.
But I got so much more out of my talk with Tyler than I expected. You can listen to a version of it here on Under the Influence.
I immediately ordered Tyler’s new book and it has kind of become a bible. I’m giving away two copies (US only…I’m sorry I fucking love you Canada). Comment TIDY in the comments for a chance to win. He also just launched a substack!
As a New York City public school teacher and father of three girls, Tyler has carved out a unique niche in the predominantly female-dominated space of home organization influencers.
What makes Tidy Dad's content resonate with me is its authenticity. Unlike the pristine, staged environments often portrayed by influencers, Tyler's content takes place in his actual 750-square-foot New York City apartment. His tips are practical and attainable for everyday parents juggling work, family, and the never-ending battle against household chaos.
He also cleans a damn toilet to Defying Gravity from Wicked….in COSTUME!
I watch his reels and think, oh, okay. I could clean up my house like this. And guess what? I did.
After our talk I immediately embraced Tyler’s advice to install more vertical storage in my kids’ closets.

Tyler's journey into influencing wasn't planned. In 2019, inspired by Marie Kondo's Netflix show, he initially tried offering in-person tidying sessions in his neighborhood. When only two people showed up despite fifteen liking his post, he had an epiphany: "What if I just put this online?"
