Today I want to rave about another book that just hit shelves this week. Tia Levings’ A Well-Trained Wife.

Tia is an incredible woman. She’s a survivor, she’s a healer, she’s a truth-teller. And her new book, A Well-Trained Wife will save the lives of countless women trapped in abusive relationships.

What we can’t ignore right now is that a good portion of America is trapped in an abusive relationship with a political ticket that wants to destroy women’s agency and strip us of all of our rights.

This episode of Under the Influence is a crucial listen, especially considering the looming significant election that could potentially shape the future of the country.

Tia was married at the young age of 19 to a man steeped in the Christian patriarchy. She was groomed to be a submissive and sexually pure bride, which led to a life filled with violence and abuse that she wasn’t equipped to recognize at the time.

This story is not new, nor is it a solitary one. Countless women have been trapped in the same way. You might remember Cait West’s harrowing story of her own escape from the Christian patriarchy. We talked about it here in the newsletter just last month.

Tia’s own long journey to freedom and healing involved ten years of trauma therapy, which she meticulously documents in her new memoir, A Well-Trained Wife. This book aims to shed light on the dangers of the so-called "trad wives" and the insidious ways the Christian patriarchy has infiltrated various levels of the Republican party, pushing to gain power through conservative platforms.

Tia’s goal is to encourage all women to harness their agency and power in everyday actions, stand against subjugation, and support progressive freedoms. Her message is one of resilience and the importance of women’s voices and votes in the upcoming elections to prevent a regression into patriarchal control.
