And here’s the post about porn you didn’t know you needed between Christmas and New Years. Happy holidays to one and all!
I read this story about tradwife porn from Vice a few weeks ago and let it settle into my brain for a bit before doing my own research.
According to Pornhub (the web’s largest distributor of online pornography) “‘tradwife’ saw big gains in its search traffic — a 72 percent spike, to be exact. For those blissfully unaware, that’s short for “traditional wife” — which itself saw a 34 percent increase in searches.”
Trends in porn might seem arbitrary, but I truly believe they both reflect cultural norms and then continue to influence them. As more and more individuals demand tradwife porn in the market, more and more pornographers will create it, making it more ubiquitous on porn sites and forums. It is a vicious circle. And it can serve to normalize the subjugation of women in traditional roles.
This is also coming during a time when we saw 50 men convicted in France after Gisèle Pelicot, a 72-year-old woman, was repeatedly drugged and raped by her ex-husband, Dominique Pelicot, and dozens of other men over a period of nearly a decade. Dominique Pelicot solicited men on a forum called “à son insu”, meaning “without her knowledge.” I can’t think of a more telling way to strip a woman of her agency than calling together a group of men on a forum called WITHOUT HER KNOWLEDGE.
This is the world we are living in right now. It is not some strange anomaly.
The most concerning impact of tradwife porn to me is on young men who start viewing pornography online at shocking young ages these days.
The internet has made pornography more accessible than ever before. A study found that 93.2% of boys had seen online pornography before the age of 18, with most exposure beginning between ages 14 and 17.
So what exactly is tradwife porn and how can it impact how young boys view women and sexual behavior as their rubbery little brains are being formed? I’ve done a deep dive into this disturbing part of the Internet so you don’t have to.
