Fun news! Bookshop has selected The Sicilian Inheritance as one of the top 100 books of 2024 so far. Considering major publishers have published about 5,000 books so far this year being in the top 2% feels pretty sweet. And it is all because of you. THANK YOU for continuing to spread the word and ordering copies for everyone you know. You are AMAZE-BALLS. Also don’t be shy about telling everyone you see today :)

This week Christine and I have been pitching We Are Not Like Them (our 2022 Good Morning America book club pick) to a bunch of streaming networks for a potential TV show. It’s been a three year process!!!

We have to keep tight-lipped about it so I can’t share a ton now but I did want to give you a sneak peak of the behind the scenes glamour of pitching a book as a television show.

It involved a nap.

I’m SO TIRED! We had two pitches on Thursday and I fell asleep on this rock in between. For some reason each of these pitches takes a ton out of me and I just conk out.

I can’t really do meetings in our tiny cabin with all of my kids running around so I have been using the empty bar at the Spruceton Inn. I realized after our first pitch that I needed a higher camera angle so I just grabbed this case of beer.

I am fancy as fuck my friends!

I finished two books up at the cabin in the past couple of weeks that I absolutely adored. The Wedding People (which was a Jenna pick) was such a surprise delight to me.

I didn’t want it to end. It’s dark and it does deal with suicidal feelings which I think could be better explained in the flap copy so people know what they are getting into, but it is also funny and make me snort laugh out loud.

I feel bad telling you about the next one because it isn’t out yet but it will be soon! My friend Abbott Kahler has written an incredible book of non-fiction that reads like an insane novel.

In Eden Undone European exiles create a utopian paradise in the Galapagos islands leading up to World War 2.

The three sets of exiles—a Berlin doctor and his lover, a traumatized World War I veteran and his young family, and an Austrian Baroness with two adoring paramours—were riven by conflict. The Baroness, wielding a riding crop and pearl-handled revolver, staged physical fights between her two lovers and unabashedly seduced American tourists. The conclusion was deadly: with two exiles missing and two others dead, the survivors hurled accusations of murder.

I was up until 3 am finishing it last night. Giving away a copy for paid subscribers when you comment EDEN.

But there is so much more to read as we dive into the weekend!

Over the Influence is made possible by YOU. And I appreciate the hell out of you. Please consider subscribing to reap all the benefits, giveaways and weird wisdom we share here on a regular basis.
