I recently posted a little something to my Instagram about how I truly believe that the Trump campaign hoodwinked the world of wellness obsessed women in order to court their votes over from the left. It was a reaction to this picture posted by the Trumps of them chowing down on McDonald’d on a private plane. They couched it in “JOKES” but let’s be honest, this is a crew that has very little regard for the people who elected them and they are all propped up by Big Food corporate money.

Emily and I have talked about the wellness to rightwing pipeline a ton on our We’ve Got Issues podcast and we will continue to report on this together.

The majority of the negative responses on my post ( the Meta algorithm broadcast this far and wide because it loves outrage) were from very angry men and women telling me that I was not just delusional but that I was ugly and therefore had no right to any opinions ON ANYTHING.

I was also informed that the majority of liberals are also ugly and fat.

This isn’t the first time I noticed that the right is unhealthily obsessed with superficial physical appearance. It is absolutely a trickle down product of Trump’s own obsession with a very particular kind of female beauty.

We’re gonna get into that below. But first let’s talk about how Trump’s behavior seems to have infected the entire right ecosystem.

If you take a look at the right wing influencing accounts that do incredibly well they are populated with political pundits that MAKE IT CUTE. They are what my friend

refers to as cutefluencers.

I am not a cutefluencer. I am just a 44-year-old human woman writer and mom doing stuff with messy hair while wearing sweatpants jeans. How dare I try to make any kind of social commentary without putting on a full face of makeup, false eyelashes and getting a Botox update. I’m disgusting is what I am. Here are the comments I got on Instagram.

I challenge RFK to an abs contest. Let’s do this. I’ll bring the dead baby bear. There are also so many RFK stans who comment about how “in shape” and “handsome he is.

Ummmmmm OK. Yeah, I guess we should all want to bone this guy.

The comments get worse from there. They are also intensely transphobic.

There is apparently only one acceptable way for a woman to look in MAGAs eyes—like a Fembot or a Real Housewife freshly out of hair and makeup.

Now I have absolutely no opinion on the good or the bad of how any woman looks. I think a woman looks great when she feels great. YOU DO YOU!

But I do think there is something to be said about a political group that seems to WANT women to look a certain way.
